Job description

My client has a large and also big potential business in the Ports sector, and also a growing business in the Logistics sector. They are relying on us to look for someone to drive and coordinate their business in Asia in these areas. In addition the role, being based in their daughter company in Hong Kong, would act as Branch Manager for the company there.


1.0 Competences / Tasks



1.1 Key Account Ports and Logistics Asia



  • Coordinate the activities in Asia regarding Port and Logistic business

  • Active participation on site (with the responsible country) at the Key Accounts driving the industry in Asia, incl. China, Singapore, Malaysia, Dubai, Japan, India plus others

  • Achieve specification, approved status and acceptance at the influential Port and Logistics operators

  • Ensure that my client is the preferred choice and supplier used at the relevant OEMs

  • The approach is mainly from the business side (as they have technical specialists in the countries), however a strong technical ability and understanding of the various applications and business strength are musts

  • Find out and influence the projects in the major companies

  • Manage the business to maximize successes

  • To identify the right marketing strategy, e.g. exhibitions, branding etc. and coordinating with the teams in the relevant countries



1.2 Country Management



  • Ensure that Hong Kong office reaches and achieves its goals as agreed with HQ

  • Ensure contribution to the overall team effort

  • Lead and manage the daughter company and its employees

  • Responsibility from the mother company to develop the daughter company

  • Help to guide and lead the daughter companies as it develops

  • Good knowledge of top customers, prospects, target customers and influential projects.

  • Active role in sales at those top companies when needed to achieve success



2.0 Requirements



2.1 Language


Fluent in Chinese (Mandarin/ Cantonese) and English is a must



2.2 Education


University degree in technical or business is an advantage, however experience backed up by a strong base is also possible



2.3 Working experience and knowledge



  • A previously similar role is a distinct advantage, however a good knowledge of the industry is also important

  • Experience of working in the Ports and Logistics area / companies in a technical or sales area is preferred.

  • Working experience in a similar role, especially in the B2B market and automation or manufacturing sectors is an advantage

  • Knowledge and experience of automation and project management in Ports and Logistics Industry is ideal

  • Experience in managing people is ideal, however not essential

  • Working experience in managing the sales process and growing a business is also desired

  • A good knowledge of the processes and technology used in Ports is required. Especially when it comes to CAN, RFID, camera systems and data networks is needed



3.0 Personal skills



  • Able to build and maintain positive working relationship inside major customers and also with international colleagues

  • Able to build and maintain positive working relationship inside the Chinese organization

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Sound business thinking and actions

  • Good sales skills and ability

  • Positive, humble and open attitude, mixed with a hunger to learn

  • Leadership by example and positively influencing others in achieving their targets that are the best in the interest of the company.

  • Ability to make decisions

  • Ability to understand complex projects and tasks and turn them into practice

  • Working independently is a must. However humble enough to ask for help and advice when unsure or needed. This last part is seen as a strength not a weakness

  • Ability to assert oneself

  • Strong business acumen, actions and permanently looking for improvements

  • Readiness to support other people and changes

  • Confident enough to deal with criticism and resistance

  • Willing to travel extensively in Asia, frequently and often, depending on opportunities and projects.
